Before you buy Xopenex online

What It Does

Xopenex is used to treat breathing problems in people with long-term breathing problems (such as chronic bronchitis or emphysema). Xopenex provides relief for wheezing, shortness of breath and chest tightness.

The active ingredient of Xopenex is levalbuterol. Levalbuterol belongs to the group of bronchodilators, and makes it easier for you to breathe by opening up the airways. This is done by the drug preventing the smooth muscle surrounding the airways pulled together and thus kept the airway open. Levalbuterol works by stimulating beta2-adrenergic receptors in muscles.

Levalbuterol contained in Xopenex may also be approved to treat other diseases not mentioned in this product. Ask your doctor, pharmacist or other healthcare professional if you have further questions and always follow their instructions.

How It Works

Bronchodilators, to which Xopenex belongs, are drugs that is taken by inhalation, serve to control symptoms of asthma; they are only available on prescription. There are short-acting bronchodilators are used for quick relief of asthma symptoms during an attack, such as Xopenex. Long-acting bronchodilators may provide relief of symptoms up to 12 hours, this type of products is very useful for people who suffer from nocturnal asthma attacks.

Bronchodilators relax the muscles ligaments that tighten around the airways. It quickly opens the airways, letting more air into the lungs, thus improving breathing. Bronchodilators can also help improve the outflow of mucus from the lungs. When the airways are opened, there is more space, so the mucus can easily go.

With an average asthma attack it is usually sufficient from 1 to 4 puffs of an inhaler to relieve symptoms of wheezing and chest tightness. In severe attacks sometimes more inhales are needed. You should be aware of the development of your disease, so you need to discuss the details with the doctor.

How It Is Taken

Drugs like Xopenex are provided with detailed indications for the patient. Read carefully before using this medicine. If you do not understand the instructions or if you are unsure of how to use the medicine, ask your doctor to show you what to do. Also, ask your doctor to check regularly how to use the drug to make sure that you are using it correctly.

Use Xopenex only as directed. Do not use more of it and do not use more often than recommended on the label, unless otherwise directed by your doctor. Using the medicine more often may increase the risk of serious side effects. Deaths have occurred when too much inhalation of a bronchodilator medication has been used.

For patients using levalbuterol inhalation aerosol:

The canister aerosol levalbuterol provides about 200 inhalations, depending on the size of the container the doctor ordered. You should try to keep a record of the number of inhalations you use so you know when the container is almost empty. This filter, unlike some other aerosols cannot be transported in water to test its fullness.

When you are using the inhaler for the first time, or if it has not been used in a while, the inhaler cannot provide the correct amount of medicine with the first puff. Therefore, before using, test inhaler or priming.

1. To test or prime the inhaler, shake the inhaler immediately before each use. 2. Remove the cap from the actuator (or mouthpiece). Check the drive for foreign objects and make sure the container is housed in the actuator before each use. 3. Prime the inhaler by releasing 4 test sprays into the air, away from your face. The inhaler is now ready to provide the right amount of medicine when you use it.

To use the inhaler:

1. Shake the inhaler 2. Breathe fully through the mouth expelling as much air from your lungs as possible. Place the mouthpiece fully in your mouth, holding the inhaler in the mouthpiece down and close your lips around it. 3. While breathing deeply and slowly through your mouth, press down the top of the metal container with the middle finger. Immediately after the dough is delivered, release your finger from the container and remove the inhaler from the mouth. 4. Hold your breath for 10 seconds, if possible. 5. If your doctor has prescribed more than a single inhalation / breath, wait one minute between inhalations. Then, shake the inhaler and repeat. 6. Replace the mouthpiece cover after each use 7. Clean the mouthpiece actuator or at least once a week.

To clean the inhaler:

1. To clean the blue plastic actuator (or mouthpiece), remove the container and cap red. 2. Wash the actuator through the top and bottom with running hot water for 30 seconds at least once a week 3. Shake off the excess water and let the inhaler parts air dry completely before putting the inhaler back together. 4. Do not clean the metal container or leave the metal container dry. Never put the metal container in water. 5. To dry, remove the 'excess water and let the air actuator to dry, for example at night.

When the actuator is dry, replace the container and the cap mouthpiece. Make sure that the container is completely and securely inserted into the housing. Block from medicine accumulation is more likely to occur if the actuator is not allowed to dry thoroughly.

If the actuator is blocked (little or no medicine out of the mouthpiece), wash the actuator and allow to dry thoroughly. If you need the inhaler before the plastic actuator is completely dry, shake excess water actuator, replace the container, shake well, and spray test twice in the air away from your face, to remove most part of the water that remains in the actuator. Then take the prescribed dose. After such use, re-wash and thoroughly dry the actuator.
