Sildenafil and Nitrates: the Detailed Look

10 August of 2018

In general, Viagra is a safe medication that is usually combined with other medicines without unsafe interactions.

However, there is a group of medicines, the use of which can lead to undesirable and even dangerous consequences when combined with Viagra. Nitrates are the most dangerous medicines in this regard. Below we will tell you why you cannot combine Viagra and nitrates and what safety measures should be taken.

Viagra – Description and Key Features

Viagra is the most famous medical remedy for the treatment of disorders of male erection. The basic active agent of the medicament is sildenafil, which belongs to the group of PDE5 inhibitors. It suppresses the activity of PDE5, increasing the amount of substances necessary for adequate vasodilation (expansion) of the cavernous bodies of the male organ. The original version of the drug is produced by the American company Pfizer. However, it has a fairly high cost. Therefore, many men prefer the generic version of sildenafil, such as Canadian Viagra.

Can You Combine Viagra with L-Arginine?

01 February of 2018

Often patients taking Viagra use natural supplements to improve erectile function. It is commonly believed, that herb-based and animal-based supplements are completely safe for health and can be freely combined with various medications. But this is not so.

Sometimes Viagra is taken jointly with arginine supplements. Is it safe?

Viagra and Its Mechanism of Action

Viagra pills belong to the group of PDE5 inhibitors. The name "PDE5 inhibitor" generally refers to the mechanism of action of this potent drug. Sildenafil Citrate (an active agent of Viagra) suppresses PDE5, which is located in the penile tissues. PDE5 is an enzyme that inhibits cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), an essentially important compound for normal penile erection.

During sex stimulation, NO is released from the cavernous structures, which activates the special enzyme guanylate cyclase, resulting in a higher cGMP level in the cavernous bodies. Because of this, the smooth musculature of the cavernous structure relaxes, and the influx of blood into the penis increases.

By suppressing PDE5 and increasing the level of cGMP, Canadian Viagra provides a relaxation of the blood vessels in the male organ, which leads to an increase in the degree of reaction to sexual stimulation and improvement of erectile function. According to the studies, the drug is effective in 80-85% of cases when using 50mg & 100mg dosages.

Food to Avoid While Treating with Viagra

29 January of 2018

Viagra is a medicine that can be taken with or without food. However, if you want to get best results and/or prevent negative interactions, you should not use sildenafil with certain food products.

The Use of Viagra

Viagra is a known medication based on the active agent sildenafil citrate, belonging to the class of PDE5 inhibitors. It does not cure erectile dysfunction, but it effectively treats the symptoms of this disease by affecting some enzymes in the penile tissues, which leads to an improvement in blood circulation in the penile organ. AWC Canadian Healthcare professionals recommend administering Viagra 30–60 minutes before the planned sexual intercourse.

However, you can do this 3–4 hours before sex, given that the medication is effective up to 6 hours (in some men up to 12 hours, although its effectiveness is reduced).

The branded medicine has a relatively high price, so many patients prefer Generic Viagra, which has a low cost, but the same beneficial effect.

Viagra and Heart Diseases – What Does the Science Say in 2017?

18 December of 2017

It is a well-known fact that Viagra was originally created for treating heart diseases. But something went wrong (in a good sense). It turned out that the drug was more efficient for the treatment of erectile problems. However, independent researchers did not stop investigating the possibility of using this medication for initial purposes. Below we will tell you what the science says about Viagra and heart diseases.

Some Historical Facts

In 1989, chemists of the pharmaceutical company Pfizer synthesized the active substance called UK-92480 in the laboratory of the English city of Sandwich. The main mechanism of action of this substance was that it inhibited the activity of PDE5 enzyme, which led to better vasodilation. At first they thought that the new drug would be useful for the treatment of angina and other heart diseases associated with weakening of blood circulation. In 1991, they secured a patent in which the drug was named sildenafil and had to be used as a heart medication. However, two scientists – Peter Ellis and Nickolas Terret – noted that PDE type 5 inhibitors might be effective in erectile dysfunction.
